Food Safety |
 |
|
Fruits and Vegetables
|
Keep your potatoes safe. Store them in a dark place to avoid greening. To maximize
the freshness, refrigerate all types of sprouts. Thoroughly wash all ready to eat
fruit and vegetables before eating.

|
Refrigerator Storage
|
For food safety, store meat & poultry in the bottom shelf of the refrigerator
until ready to cook on the same day. Refrigerate all products containing fresh cream.
When storing foods, always start clearing cold and frozen items in your groceries
purchases before cans and dry products. After opening a UHT milk pack, remember
to keep it in the refrigerator. To maintain quality and freshness, refrigerate baby
foods after opening and store in a jar or plastic container.

|
Meat, Fish & Poultry
|
To avoid cross contamination never put cooked food on unwashed plates or cutting
boards that have contained raw meat or fish. Cook all poultry until juices runs
clear and there is no pink flesh. Keep fresh fish well covered in the refrigerator
to prevent it coming into contact with other foods.

|
Handling Frozen / Thawed Items
|
Always thaw meat and poultry in the refrigerator or the microwave. To keep your
food safe, never refreeze thawed food you have previously frozen, or freeze food
that has been thawed for your convenience.
|
|
Dry Goods Storage
|
Avoid storing food in cabinets that are under the sink or have water, drain and
heating pipes passing through them. Food stored here can attract insects and rodents
through openings that are difficult to seal properly.
Wash the tops of cans with soap and water before opening.
|
|
Personal Hygiene
|
For effective hygiene and sanitation, paper towels are recommended for hand drying
and to clean kitchen surfaces and spills. Remember to wash your hands with soap and
water, after handling raw foods.

Food Storage Practices (Airtight containers/bags)
|
After opening a can product, maintain quality and freshness by storing in a plastic
or glass container in the refrigerator. Always follow the storage directions of
cans as recommended by manufacturers. To prolong freshness, store bakery products
in a dry airtight container. If freezing any foods, use an airtight bag to preserve
quality.
Store dry goods (like flour and sugar) in an airtight container to prevent pest
contamination.
